Three men have been charged with a racially motivated attack on Hispanic victims at a Lake Los Angeles park, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today.

Ian Justine Plankey (dob 12/7/95), Richard Lawrence Daulton (dob 10/1/96) and Kevin Matthew Stewart (dob 10/23/90) all face two felony counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Case MA068097 also charges Plankey, Daulton and Stewart with one count each of battery and assault with the added allegations that the named offenses were hate crimes and committed because of the victims' status and perceived race or ethnicity.

The felony complaint filed yesterday includes the additional allegation that the defendants used a knife and that Stewart was convicted in 2014 of assault with a firearm in case TA131789.

The three defendants pleaded not guilty yesterday and are scheduled to return for preliminary hearing on March 11 in Department A02 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch.

The victims were playing soccer and speaking Spanish when the alleged attack occurred on Feb. 28 at Stephen Sorensen Park, prosecutors said.

Bail for defendants Plankey and Daulton is $185,000 and $245,000 for Stewart.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Parks Bureau.
