A 59-year-old man has entered a no contest plea for the death of a woman who had recently become his roommate, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey said Mario Rene Villalobos of North Hills pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of voluntary manslaughter in case PA083471.

Sentencing for Villalobos is scheduled for June 30 at the San Fernando Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Department N. The defendant faces an 11-year prison sentence.

The defendant killed Cassandra Silagyi, 48, on May 1, 2015. Police discovered the woman's body after receiving a phone tip from someone who Villalobos asked for help with disposing of the corpse, the prosecutor said. The victim and the defendant had been roommates for nearly a month, but Villalobos had allegedly been trying to evict the victim, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Bureau.
