A 55-year-old man was sentenced today to 35 years to life in state prison for sexually assaulting a boy at gunpoint nearly 17 years ago in Northridge, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
A jury found Mirek Paul Voyt of Los Angeles guilty on Jan. 11 of two felony counts: kidnapping to commit oral copulation and sodomy by force or fear; and forcible oral copulation.
The panel also found true allegations that he used a handgun, tied and bound the victim and kidnapped the victim during the commission of the crimes.
Deputy District Attorney Julie Kramer said Voyt today also was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The victim was 14 years old on June 22, 2001, when he and a friend were walking near Vanalden Avenue and Chase Street. According to witness testimony, it was then that Voyt approached them, pointed a gun at them and forced the victim into his vehicle, the prosecutor said.
The defendant then took the victim to a residence where he tied him up and sexually assaulted him, the prosecutor added. When the attack concluded, Voyt drove the victim to a nearby corner and dropped him off, according to evidence presented at the trial.
The defendant was identified through a DNA cold hit in 2016.
Case PA088150 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division.
