A 26-year-old Los Angeles man pleaded no contest today to one count of carjacking for taking an Uber driver's vehicle, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Jamerious Hicks, aka Deveon Deonteray Wilson, also admitted an allegation of personal use of a deadly weapon in the plea agreement, said Deputy District Attorney Brian Rosenberg, who prosecuted case BA464219.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Dorothy Reyes immediately sentenced Wilson to six years in state prison, Rosenberg said.

According to the prosecutor, Wilson got into an Uber ride-sharing vehicle the evening of Jan. 5 that had gotten a call for a pickup near the intersection of Broadway Place and 39th Street in Los Angeles.

Once inside, he hit the driver with a wrench, Rosenberg said. The victim pulled over and fell from the car, and Wilson drove off with the vehicle, the prosecutor said.

The Los Angeles Police Department, Newton Division, investigated the case.
