A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty today to fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in her Bellflower apartment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
Antowan Ladell Parker (dob 6/17/89) has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Case VA143818 was filed for arrest warrant on Jan. 19.
The felony complaint includes a special allegation that the defendant personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, which caused great bodily injury and death to the murder victim.
Additionally, the charging document alleges that Parker was previously convicted of first-degree burglary, person present, in 2010.
The defendant is scheduled to return to set a date for a preliminary hearing on June 5 in Department 38 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He is currently being held on $4.15 million bail.
Prosecutors said on the morning of Jan. 16, Parker reportedly barged into the Bellflower apartment of his estranged girlfriend, Kenia Buckner.
Once inside the residence, Parker allegedly pointed a gun at several of the victim's family members before fatally shooting Buckner, 28, according to prosecutors.
If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of more than 50 years to life in state prison.
The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
