SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney's Office (OCDA) and the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) are seeking the public's help identifying potential additional victims of a former Santa Ana High School (SAHS) science teacher charged with having sex with an underage female student in his classroom. Alvar Albert Gonzalez, 45, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse and one felony count of possession and control of child pornography. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He is out of custody on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

At the time of the crime, Gonzalez was a science teacher at SAHS and also ran an anime club at the school, which included students outside of his science class. On several occasions between Sept. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, Gonzalez is accused of meeting with a teenage female student, who was a minor, and having sex with her in his classroom. On one occasion, the defendant is accused of recording a sexually explicit video of the victim.

On Dec. 17, 2014, another student reported experiencing possible inappropriate contact by Gonzalez which led to an investigation by SAHS administrators, who then contacted SAPD. It was that investigation that eventually led to the discovery of the victim in this case. SAPD investigated this case and arrested the defendant on Sept. 4, 2015.

The investigation in this case is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact SAPD Detective Javier Aceves at (714) 245-8542 or OCDA Supervising District Attorney Investigator Mark Gutierrez at (714) 347-8794.

Deputy District Attorney Ann Fawaz of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
