LAPD OFFICER TO FACE TRIAL FOR ATTEMPTED LEWD ACT WITH 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND INDECENT EXPOSURE TO FIVE FEMALE VICTIMS

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer is scheduled to face trial tomorrow on charges of attempting to commit a lewd act with a 12-year-old girl and indecent exposure to five female victims in Huntington Beach. Ryan Eric Galliher, 33, Huntington Beach, is charged with one felony count of attempted lewd act upon a child under 14 years old, one felony count of contacting a minor with the intent to commit a lewd act, six misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure, and one misdemeanor count of engaging in lewd conduct. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. Opening statements are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Nov. 17, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-29, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

At the time of the crimes, Galliher was employed as an officer with the LAPD.

On Feb. 27, 2014, Galliher is accused of approaching 12-year-old Jane Doe 1 in the Bolsa Chica wetlands area. He is accused of approaching the victim, exposing his penis to her, and asking the victim to touch his penis. On March 10, 2014, Galliher is accused of approaching Jane Doe 1 near Bolsa Chica Street in Huntington Beach and exposing his penis to her.

On April 18, 2014, Galliher is accused of approaching 80-year-old Jane Doe 2 who was walking in the area of Bolsa Chica Street and exposing his penis to her.

On June 17, 2014, Galliher is accused of approaching 43-year-old Jane Doe 3 who was walking in the Bolsa Chica wetlands area. The defendant is accused of standing naked wearing only tennis shoes and exposing himself to the victim.

Between Aug. 1, 2014, and Oct. 1, 2014, the defendant is accused standing in an open parking lot on Bolsa Chica Street and exposing his penis and masturbating in public. John Doe was driving by the parking lot and witnessed the conduct. John Doe reported what he saw to police after seeing a Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) press release looking for additional victims.

On Oct. 20, 2014, Galliher is accused of standing naked in the Bolsa Chica wetlands area and whistling at 19-year-old Jane Doe 4 and 18-year-old Jane Doe 5 as they were jogging and exposing himself to them.

The victims in this case reported a description of the defendant to HBPD, who investigated this case.

On Oct. 23, 2014, Galliher is accused of walking out of the wetlands, pulling down his shorts to expose his penis, and masturbating in public. HBPD officers, who were patrolling the area located Galliher, who matched the description reported previously by the victims, and arrested him at the scene. The defendant was booked and released after posting $1,000 bail while the investigation by HBPD was on-going. On Nov. 4, 2014, the OCDA filed charges against the defendant and HBPD arrested Galliher later that evening. Galliher's bail was subsequently set at $100,000, which the defendant posted.

Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez of the Special Prosecutions Unit is prosecuting this case.
