A former Monterey Park police officer was convicted today of sexually assaulting women while on duty four years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Jurors deliberated for about two days before finding Israel Sanchez (dob 3/17/76) guilty of 14 counts: five counts of sexual battery by restraint, five counts of assault under color of authority, three counts of false imprisonment by violence and one count of soliciting a bribe.

Sanchez is scheduled to be sentenced April 24 in Department 124 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 11 years in state prison. Additionally, Sanchez will have to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Deputy District Attorney Hyunah Suh of the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case.

Between July and August 2014, Sanchez forced each victim to expose herself during a traffic stop while he was on duty, the prosecutor said. On two occasions, he touched the women after ordering them to expose themselves. The victims were between 19 and 28 years old, the prosecutor added.

Case BA446666 was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department at the request of the Monterey Park Police Department.
