Prosecutors filed charges today against a transient who allegedly pushed a pedestrian in front of a truck and attacked two other people in separate incidents this week in downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Garrett Joseph Boldt (dob 1/1/77) was charged with one felony count of premeditated attempted murder, three felony counts of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of petty theft, according to the criminal complaint in case BA473456. The charges include an allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

According to prosecutors, Boldt is accused of tackling a woman to the ground on the morning of Dec. 4 at West Seventh and Hill streets.

The next morning, on Dec. 5, Bolt was sitting on a bench on West Sixth Street near South Broadway when he stood up and allegedly pushed a passing pedestrian into the street, prosecutors said. The man was hit by a truck and suffered serious injuries.

The victim also dropped a bracelet he had been carrying when he was pushed, which Boldt is accused of taking.

Boldt allegedly punched a woman later that afternoon at a bus stop at West First and South Hill streets. Police arrested him nearby soon after.

The attacks appeared to be random and unprovoked, prosecutors said.

Boldt faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.

Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $1.09 million.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Central Division.
