Couple Sentenced For Sexually Assaulting Teen in 2000

A couple who ran a South Los Angeles private school has pleaded no contest to sexually assaulting a 16- year-old student in 2000, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today.

Joseph Horace Green (dob 5/17/65) entered his plea yesterday to one count each of unlawful sexual intercourse and sodomy of a person under the age of 18. He was immediately sentenced to three years and eight months in state prison and must register as a sex offender.

Chanell Nicola Warren (dob 5/9/74) pleaded no contest to two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18. She was sentenced to three years in state prison and also was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Deputy District Attorney Christine Von Helmolt of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case.

Green approached the teenage victim when he and Warren ran the K-12 Enlightened Minds School. In February 2000, the pair sexually assaulted the victim at an RV parked in front of their home. Over the next several weeks, Green and Warren committed additional sexual assaults on the girl.

The couple fled after the crimes were reported to police in March 2000. They were arrested in Florida in October 2017.Case BA201238 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division.
