A 23-year-old homeless man was charged today with the murder of a man near the 101 Freeway and Hollywood Boulevard earlier this week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Alex Conn Vasquez (dob 3/8/94) faces one count of murder with the special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery and a knife-use allegation.

Arraignment in case BA458290 is scheduled today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On June 12, the defendant got into an altercation with victim Jimmy Bradford, 47, prosecutors said. Vasquez allegedly stabbed Bradford multiple times in the back, prosecutors added.

The defendant is being held with no bail. He faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Bureau Homicide.
