A Canyon Country man who fatally shot a houseguest and then fled to New York was sentenced yesterday to 28 years and four months in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey said Michael Joe McGlothan (dob 6/18/63) pleaded no contest on Nov. 3 to one felony count each of voluntary manslaughter and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
On May 6, 2015, the defendant shot both his girlfriend and Ledarion Demont Allen Jr., 21, who had been staying at his home, according to evidence presented at a preliminary hearing. Allen died as a result of his injuries and the girlfriend survived.
McGlothan fled the area and was located in New York nearly a month after the shooting.
