Boyfriend Sentenced in Child’s Stabbing Death

A Los Angeles man who fatally stabbed his girlfriend's 11-year-old son in front of his 5-year-old brother was sentenced today to 56 years to life in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Rineson Curtis Adams, 29, was convicted in January of the first-degree murder of Jai L. on May 27, 2013. The jury also found Adams guilty of one count of child abuse because Adams stabbed the child in front of his younger brother.

The same jury also found Adams sane at the time of the murder.

Deputy District Attorney Carolina Lugo of the Family Violence Division prosecuted the case.

Adams, who has three prior felony convictions, including two convictions for transportation and sale of a controlled substance in 2008 and 1996, and one conviction for residential burglary in 1996.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
