Boyfriend Convicted in Child’s Stabbing Death

A jury today found a Los Angeles man guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend's 11-year-old son, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

The jury deliberated less than four hours before finding Rineson Curtis Adams, 29, guilty of fatally stabbing Jai L. on May 27, 2013. The jury also found Adams guilty of one count of child abuse and found true the special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife.

Deputy District Attorney Carolina Lugo of the Family Violence Division, who prosecuted the case, said Adams returns to Department 128 on Wednesday to begin the sanity phase in case BA411789.

Adams, who has three prior felony convictions, including two convictions for transportation and sale of a controlled substance in 2008 and 1996, and one conviction for residential burglary in 1996, faces up to life in state prison if he is found sane at the time of the murder.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
