A Palos Verdes man was charged today with the October assault of a man at the Dodger Stadium parking lot following a Dodgers-Mets game, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Michael Rae Papayans (dob 7/12/88) is scheduled to be arraigned on March 11 in Department 30 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in case BA444180. Prosecutors will ask that his bail be set at $60,000 bail.

Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee with the Major Crimes Division is prosecuting the case.

On Oct. 9, 2015, a group of four people, one of whom was wearing Mets attire, were confronted by a woman as they were heading to their car following the game. The woman allegedly yelled epithets shortly before her son, Michael Rae Papayans, joined in a verbal dispute with the group.

The dispute escalated when the son allegedly punched a 50-year-old male in the head, knocking him unconscious. As the victim fell to the ground, he hit his head on the pavement, causing him to sustain serious head injuries, prosecutors said.

Papayans is charged with one felony count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury with an allegation that he caused great bodily injury.

If convicted, Papayans faces up to seven years in state prison.

The defendant's mother allegedly kicked the victim in the back while he was on the ground. Prosecutors referred the mother's case to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office for misdemeanor filing consideration.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division.
