An anesthesiologist has been charged with the fatal overdose of a 71-year-old patient earlier this year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
Stephen Kyosung Kim (dob 2/6/64) was charged yesterday in case BA463594 with one count of murder. Kim is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Deputy District Attorneys Beth Silverman and Tannaz Mokayef of the Major Crimes Division are prosecuting the case.
On Sept. 26, Kim was working at the Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery Center in Beverly Hills and allegedly had given the patient, Dr. Mark Greenspan, medicine to sedate the victim before surgery.
The defendant is accused of injecting himself with drugs during the procedure. While Greenspan was in a recovery room, Kim allegedly gave him a lethal dose of Demerol.
Soon after, Greenspan went into cardiac arrest and died.
Kim faces up to 25 years to life in state prison if convicted.
The case remains under investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department.
