Inglewood man charged in fatal hit-and-run

A 38-year-old motorist was charged today in connection with an Inglewood hit-and-run case, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Goldman said Jesus Cazares (dob 3/15/75) of Inglewood, is charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident and one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter.

Cazares is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Inglewood Branch. He is charged in case YA088678.

Elisa Alvarez, 47, of Santa Monica, was fatally struck on the evening of Oct. 19 as she left a family gathering. Cazares allegedly struck the woman with his truck just moments after the victim had helped place her toddler cousin into a car seat.

Prosecutors have recommended that the defendant’s bail be set at $50,000. If convicted as charged, Cazares faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Inglewood Police Department. At this time, a prosecutor has not been assigned to the case.
