Nick Conway ordered to stand trial on charges of conflict of interest for work with SGVCOG

Nick Conway, the former executive director of San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, was ordered to stand trial Thursday for felony conflict of interest.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar de Longoria ruled there was enough evidence to suggest Conway was guilty of the charges.

At issue were four contracts managed by Conway for the COG. "He sought out contracts that benefitted him, " said the judge.

Kenneth White, Conway's attorney, said he disagreed with the judge's interpretation of the evidence.

"I disagree. It was part of the COG's strategic plan. Mr Conway did what he was instructed to do by the COG board," White said after the ruling in an interview.

Deputy District Attorney Dana Aratani was pleased by the ruling.

"We think the judge made the right decision, " he said.

Conway is due back in court on Feb. 28 for an arraignment before the start of the criminal trial.
