Former Park-and-Ride Security Guard Convicted of Murder

LANCASTER – After nearly a month of deliberation, jurors today convicted a former security guard of fatally shooting an 18-year-old college student in a Palmdale park-and-ride lot.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Blake of the Antelope Valley Branch Office said Raymond Lee Jennings, 35, was convicted of the second-degree murder of Michelle O’Keefe. Jurors additionally found true an allegation that the defendant personally and intentionally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury or death.

Superior Court Judge Lisa Chung ordered the defendant to return for sentencing on Jan. 22, 2010 in Department A19 of Antelope Valley Court. Jennings faces a maximum prison term of 40 years to life.

O’Keefe was shot multiple times while sitting in the driver’s seat of her car on the night of Feb. 22, 2000. The Antelope Valley College student had spent the day in Los Angeles working as an extra in a music video. The defendant was the security guard on duty hired to patrol the lot.

Jennings was tried two previous times with both juries deadlocking in favor of guilt.
