SANTA ANA - A youth sports coach was sentenced today to 13 years and six months plus an additional 285 years to life in state prison for sexually assaulting 11 of his students, whom he met through his coaching jobs. Luis Alberto Pineda, 31, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury Nov. 5, 2012, of 17 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, two felony counts each of sodomy by force, sodomy of a person under the age of 16, oral copulation of a minor under 16, lewd acts upon a child, one felony count each of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years old or younger and attempted lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 and three misdemeanor counts of simple assault and sentencing allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child and committing lewd acts on multiple victims

Between 2005 and 2010, Pineda was a martial arts assistant instructor at Moo Yea Do Martial Arts in Fullerton and was also a soccer coach for the North Orange County Youth Soccer Premier League. Pineda met his victims through these coaching jobs and, during that time, Pineda befriended the parents of the victims and arranged to watch over the students after practices or games.

Pineda molested 10 boys and one girl after practices, games, or while taking them out to go to the movies or have dinner. Pineda sodomized and orally copulated a 14-year-old male student outside a Fullerton business while taking him home after karate practice. Pineda forcibly sodomized an 11-year-old male student while driving him home from soccer practice. On several occasions, Pineda fondled and masturbated his victims over and under their clothes. On one occasion between Dec. 25, 2007, and Dec. 24, 2008, Pineda sexually touched 9-year-old Jane Doe between her legs and put his hands down the inside of her shirt and pants.

The sexual assaults were initially reported to the Fullerton Police Department and then transferred to the Anaheim Police Department, who investigated the case.

During the sentencing today, two of the victims and one mother gave impact statements to the court. The mother said that her son continues to suffer emotionally from the damage Pineda caused and that Pineda betrayed her and the families of all of his victims. The Honorable Richard King, who sentenced the defendant to the maximum sentence, said, “Rats don’t do this to their children. Vultures don’t do this to their children.”

Wrestling Coach Charged with Child Molestation

EL MONTE – A former assistant high school wrestling coach who ran children’s wrestling program in Rosemead faces arraignment in El Monte Superior Court tomorrow on charges he sexually molested two boys, the District Attorney’s office announced today.

Herbert Daniel Ortizmonroy, also known as Herbert Daniel Ortiz, 29 (dob 11/15/1982), was charged last month in a felony complaint for arrest warrant (GA 087545). The defendant, a U.S. citizen, was arrested at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and deported back to California. He was returned to Los Angeles this week and is scheduled to appear tomorrow in El Monte Department 3 for arraignment. Bail is $1 million.

The defendant is charged with three counts of lewd act upon a child and two of oral copulation of a person under the age of 16. The complaint alleged the bulk of the crimes occurred between 2008 and 2010 and involved a 14-year-old victim. One of the child molestation counts was alleged to have occurred in 2002, when the second victim was under the age of 14.

The case came to light one of victims ran across the defendant’s account on Facebook, then made a made a video incorporating some of the Facebook material. The video – a music montage — appeared on YouTube was seen by the other victim.

Former LAUSD Teacher Sentenced to 25 Years State Prison for Molesting 13 Students

SAN FERNANDO – A former Telfair Elementary School teacher was sentenced today to 25 years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after he earlier pleaded no contest to molesting 13 former students, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Elena Abramson said none of Paul Chapel’s young victims appeared in court. However, Abramson read statements from three of the victims’ family members before Judge Lloyd Nash sentenced the 51-year-old former third grade teacher.

Chapel pleaded no contest Aug. 20 to 13 counts of lewd act on a child. The molestations occurred between September 2006 and April 2011. The children – six boys and seven girls — were between the ages of eight and nine when the molestations occurred.

Abramson said the Chatsworth resident was initially charged in October 2011 with molesting four children following an investigation by the Los Angeles Policy Department. In May, prosecutors added charges involving nine additional children.

Pastor Charged with Committing Lewd Acts on a Minor

INGLEWOOD – A 50-year-old pastor at an Inglewood church was charged today with nine felony counts for allegedly committing lewd acts on a child, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Gordon Barrington Solomon (dob 2/14/62) of Christ’s Community Church is expected to make his initial court appearance today in Department 5 of the Inglewood Courthouse.

Deputy District Attorney Lowrie Mendoza, with the Victim Impact Program in the Torrance Branch Office, said Solomon is charged with seven counts of committing a lewd act on a child, one count of continuous sexual abuse and one count of oral copulation of a person under the age of 14.

The alleged offenses took place between June 1, 2010, and July 1, 2012, according to the complaint.

If convicted as charged, Solomon faces a maximum sentence of 26 years and eight month in state prison. Prosecutors recommended his bail be set at $3 million.

Guzman is accused of sexual assault of a minor

GUZMAN, OMAR ALIRIO In 1995, Guzman is accused of meeting 5-year-old Jane Doe #3 while working as a housecleaner in her home.

The defendant is accused of sexually assaulting Jane Doe #3 on multiple occasions while working in the victim’s home. The defendant is accused of orally copulating the victim and forcing her to touch his penis. Between February 2009 and December 2010, Guzman is accused of sexually assaulting Jane Doe #1 on several occasions while at his home.

On one of the occasions, the defendant is accused of touching the victim’s chest and body. On the other occasions, he is accused of touching Jane Doe #1’s chest and vagina and orally copulating her. On multiple occasions between May 2009 and December 2010, Guzman is accused touching Jane Doe #2’s chest over her clothes.

Jane Doe #1 reported the sexual assault to her mother, who reported it to police. Upon further investigation, Guzman was also linked to the crimes against the other two victims. The 1995 case for Jane Doe #3 was first presented to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office when the 2010 investigation was presented for filing. Jane Doe #3 does not know Jane Does #1 and #2.

Former Middle School Teacher Convicted in Child Sex Abuse Case

LOS ANGELES – Following a day of deliberations, jurors today convicted a former middle school teacher accused of sexually abusing two teenage girls, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Antonio Gomez, 41, of Downey was convicted of 12 counts of lewd act upon a child with a special allegation found true that the defendant committed the offenses on more than one victim. Jurors also found true an allegation that the defendant had substantial sexual conduct with one victim under age 14.

Deputy District Attorney Martha Carrillo of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance Ito ordered the defendant remanded into custody without bail. Gomez is expected to be sentenced on June 27 in Department 110 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in state prison.

The offenses, which took place between June 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006, involve two former students who at the time of the offenses were between the ages of 13 and 15.

Gomez was a physical education teacher at Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School in East Los Angeles.

Former Sheriff’s Sergeant Sentenced to Prison

LOS ANGELES – A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant convicted of sexually assaulting one woman and inappropriately searching two others was sentenced today, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Sam Ohta sentenced Mark Fitzpatrick, 42, to a state prison term of nine years, four months. Deputy District Attorney Natalie Adomian of the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case.

Jurors convicted Fitzpatrick on Oct. 7, 2011, of one count each of penetration under threat to arrest or deport; sexual battery by restraint; and sexual penetration by foreign object by force, violence, duress, menace. The defendant also was convicted of three counts of false imprisonment by violence.

Fitzpatrick was remanded to custody immediately following the verdict.

The charges stemmed from three separate incidents in May 2008 during which Fitzpatrick conducted traffic stops. At the time, Fitzpatrick worked out of the Sheriff’s Compton Station.
