Rowland Heights Man Sentenced to Prison for Fatally Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend

A 28-year-old man was sentenced yesterday to 26 years to life in state prison after he was convicted of fatally stabbing his ex-boyfriend in 2014, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On June 2, a jury found Andres Aguirre of Rowland Heights guilty of first-degree murder in case KA104697. Additionally, jurors found true a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime.

Deputy District Attorney Lauren Guber, who prosecuted the case, said at the time of the crime Aguirre and the victim, Joseph Chacon, 27, were friends even though they had a previous relationship with one another.

On Feb. 12, 2014, Aguirre provided Chacon with a large amount of alcohol and drove the victim to an isolated industrial area in La Puente, the prosecutor said.

At one point, the victim exited the car to urinate and Aguirre followed. As the victim attempted to return to the car, Aguirre fatally stabbed Chacon in the chest and back, the prosecutor added.

After the attack, Aguirre left Chacon at the scene. The victim’s body was discovered by passersby a short time later, according to the prosecutor.

When law enforcement alerted Chacon’s family about his death, the family notified authorities that Aguirre was last seen with the victim before he died, the prosecutor said.

Two days after the killing, deputies interviewed the defendant about Chacon’s death. It was then the defendant admitted to stabbing the victim. The confession was played for the jury during the trial, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
