Glendale Man Charged with Killing Grandparents

A 34-year-old man was charged today with two counts of capital murder after his grandparents were found dead in the Glendale home they shared, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Tamu Usher said Nathaniel Wayne Scheiern (dob 5/28/81) of Glendale faces two counts of murder with a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders.

Case GA096622 also alleges Scheiern used an ax as a deadly and dangerous weapon in the murders.

Arraignment for the defendant is scheduled today in Department D of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pasadena Branch.

According to the criminal complaint Verna Scheiern, 82, and William Sheiern, 77, were allegedly killed by their grandson on or between June 24 and June 25. Their bodies were discovered by police on June 28.

The prosecutor is requesting the defendant be held without bail.

The decision to seek the death penalty or a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole will be made at a later date.

The case remains under investigation by the Glendale Police Department.
