Redondo Beach Doctor Charged with Selling Narcotics Rearrested

Filed under: California Defense Attorney — fayarfa @ 12:03 am

A Redondo Beach neurologist charged in June with selling powerful narcotics to undercover police was rearrested Wednesday after police discovered he was continuing to sell drugs despite a court order not to do so, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Dr. Gerard Geoffrey Goryl (dob 8/29/55) is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in case number BA428755 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Department 30. Prosecutors will ask that bail for Goryl be set at $1 million.

Deputy District Attorneys Emily Street and John Niedermann of the Major Narcotics Division are prosecuting both cases.

Goryl was rearrested Wednesday outside of his clinic, “A Better Weigh,” in Redondo Beach. The DEA and the Redondo Beach Police Department discovered that Goryl was continuing to sell Phentermine, a Schedule IV narcotic, despite being barred following his arraignment in June on similar charges.

Prosecutors said that while police were executing a warrant at his clinic on Wednesday, officers also arrested Michael Eugene Miller (dob 11/20/46), who was in possession of thousands of pills supplied by Goryl for the purpose of selling them.

Miller, charged in the same complaint, is scheduled for arraignment on Friday with Goryl.

If convicted on all counts, Goryl faces an additional 10 years, four months in local custody. Miller faces a maximum of seven years, eight months in local custody.

In the earlier case, BA425640, Goryl is scheduled to return to Department 30 on Sept. 5 to set a date for his preliminary hearing. If he convicted in that case, he faces up to 11 years in local custody.

Both cases remain under investigation by the Redondo Beach Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
