Robbery Charges Added in High School Goalie Case

VAN NUYS – The 24-year-old Calabasas man charged with fatally shooting a popular 17-year-old soccer player and the suspect’s 19-year-old girlfriend are facing new charges today in an unrelated December armed robbery, the District Attorney’s office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman with the Major Crimes Division said she filed one count each of second-degree robbery against Jason Alejandro Schumann and Elizabeth Ibarra in case LA069920. The new charges were filed late Tuesday.

The pair is charged with robbing a man of his cell phone behind a San Fernando Valley market on Dec. 29, 2011. Schumann is charged with personal use of a handgun.

Schumann and Ibarra are scheduled to be arraigned this morning at Van Nuys Superior Court, Department 100. Schumann also is scheduled to be arraigned on the murder charge in the fatal shooting of Francisco “Pancho” Rodriguez outside his home in the 6900 block of Cozycroft Avenue.

Although Ibarra is a suspect in the El Camino Real High School goalie’s Jan. 11 fatal shooting, she has not been charged with that crime.

Rodriguez, a goalie, had returned home from a soccer game when he answered a knock on the family’s door. Police said a woman apparently asked for the teen by name. When he went outside, he was shot and fatally wounded.

Schumann remains in custody on a $2 million bail. Ibarra, who remains in custody on a probation violation hold, is scheduled to appear today in Van Nuys, Department 112, for a probation violation hearing.
