PASADENA — A 36-year-old Los Angeles man is awaiting arraignment today for attempted murder in the Aug. 26 stabbing of a Metro Gold Line passenger in Pasadena.

Jose Vasquez Flores, (10-24-74), is scheduled to be arraigned sometime today in Pasadena Superior Court, Department D. He was charged Wednesday in case GA084113 with one count of attempted willful, deliberate and premeditated murder. The complaint alleges that he committed the offense to benefit a street gang and that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife, said Deputy District Attorney Dan O’Connell. He is being held on $1 million bail.

Flores allegedly got into a fight with a man as both were riding the Gold Line about 6:30 p.m. Flores allegedly stabbed the 32-year-old victim, who remains hospitalized, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Flores as the train arrived at the Memorial Park station after witnesses pointed out the suspect, officials said.

If convicted as charged, he faces up to life in prison.
