Jury Acquits Woman in Boy's Death The Los Angeles Times; Los Angeles, Calif.; Feb 3, 2001; TWILA DECKER;Abstract The jury acquitted Leona Hightower of murder and several additional charges in the scalding death of a foster child. Prosecutors argued that Hightower intentionally dipped the boy into a tub of hot water on April 25, 1999. He suffered burns over 45% to 50% of his body and died that May 10. Hightower was arrested three days later.
